The Troggs – The Artist/s
The Troggs (originally called the Troglodytes) are an English garage rock band formed in Andover, Hampshire in May 1964. They had a number of hits in the United Kingdom and the United States. Their most famous songs include the US chart-topper “Wild Thing”, “With a Girl Like You” and “Love Is All Around”, all of which sold over 1 million copies and were awarded gold discs. “Wild Thing” is considered on of the greatest songs of all time and was an influence on garage rock and punk rock. The original band members are Reg Presley (lead vocals) and Ronnie Bond (drums), Pete Staples (bass) and Chris Britton (guitar).
Wild Thing – The Song
‘Wild Thing’ is a song written by American songwriter Chip Taylor and popularised by the English rock band the Troggs. It was originally recorded and released by the American rock band the Wild Ones in 1965, but it did not chart. The Troggs’ single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the UK Singles Chart in 1966. Their version of “Wild Thing” is considered of of the greatest songs of all time and has also been performed by many other musicians including the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Fancy, the Creatures (Siouxsie Sioux’s second band), X and Liz Phair.. Owing to a distribution dispute, the Troggs’ single was available on two competing labels: Atco Records and Fontana Records. Because both pressings were taken from the same master recording, the sales were combined for both releases, making it the only single to simultaneously reach number one for two companies.
