Use it up and Wear it Out – The Song
“Use it up and Wear it Out” is a song by US-based dance and soul group Odyssey that was released as a single in 1980. It was originally released as the B-side of “Don’t Tell Me, Tell Her”. When it was re-released as the A-side it would go on to spend twelve weeks on the UK Singles Chart. The song was written by Sandy Linzer and L. Russell Brown, and produced by Linzer. It was the New York-based disco group’s only UK No. 1 single, spending two weeks at the top of the charts from July 26 to August 8, 1980,and was their most successful single on the UK Singles Chart. The song was popular due to the chorus”One two three shake your body down” and the whistle whihc was frequently blown as discos in the seventies and eighties.
The Pea Whistle – The Shape
This record has been cut into the silhouette of a pea whistle. A whistle is an instrument which produces sound from a stream of gas, most commonly air. It may be mouth-operated, or powered by air pressure, steam, or other means. Whistles vary in size from a small slide whistle or nose flute type to a large multi-piped church organ. Whistles have been around since early humans first carved out a gourd or branch and found they could make sound with it. In prehistoric Egypt, small shells were used as whistles. Many present day wind instruments are inheritors of these early whistles. With the rise of more mechanical power, other forms of whistles have been developed.
