Phil Collins – The Artist
Philip David Charles Collins (born 1951) is an English drummer, singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor. He is best known as the drummer/singer of the rock band Genesis from 1970 to 1996 and for his solo career which began in 1981. Between 1982 and 1990, Collins scored three UK and seven US number-one singles as a solo artist. When his work with Genesis, his work with other artists, as well as his solo career is totalled, he had more top 40 singles than any other artist during the 1980s. His most successful singles from the period include “In the Air Tonight”, “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)”, “Sussudio”, and “Another Day in Paradise”.
Two Hearts – The Song
“Two Hearts” was composed by Lamont Dozier of Motown’s Holland-Dozier-Holland, with lyrics by Collins, both of whom also produced this song for the crime comedy film Buster (1988). Both singles for the film, “Two Hearts” and “A Groovy Kind of Love”, topped the UK and US charts. Lamont Dozier also composed the lyrics for the Supremes hit “You Can’t Hurry Love”, which Collins covered six years earlier.
The Heart – The Shape
This record has been modelled into two connecting hearts. The heart shape and its meaning has evolved over hundreds of years. Nowadays it means love but before the 13th and 14th centuries it was generally drawn for decorative purposes. People at that time thought of our hearts as books of memory and believed feelings for the beloved were somehow written on your heart.
Buster is a 1988 British romantic crime comedy based on events from the Great Train Robbery. It stars musician Phil Collins, Julie Walters, Larry Lamb and Sheila Hancock. The soundtrack featured two singles from Collins which topped the UK and US singles charts.
