The Best – The Song
The Best is a song originally recorded by Bonnie Tyler on her 1988 album Hide Your Heart (in the US the album was titled Notes from America). It was written by Mike Chapman and Holly Knight, and produced by Desmond Child. The song was later covered by Tina Turner, and released as a highly successful single in 1989. It was also known as ‘Simply The Best‘ and included on her hit album Foreign Affair. The saxophone solo on Turner’s version is played by Edgar Winter.
The Winners Podium – The Shape
A podium is a platform used to raise something to a short distance above its surroundings. It derives from the Greek word for foot. In sports, a type of podium is used to honour the top three competitors in events such as the Olympics. In the Olympics a three-level podium is used. Traditionally, the highest level (The Best) in the centre holds the gold medalist. To their right is a somewhat lower platform for the silver medalist, and to the left of the gold medalist is an even lower platform for the bronze medalist.
