Erasure – The Artist/s

Erasure are an English synth-pop duo, consisting of singer and songwriter Andy Bell and songwriter and keyboardist Vince Clarke. They formed in London in 1985. Their debut single was “Who Needs Love Like That”. From their fourth single, “Sometimes”, the duo established themselves on the UK Singles Chart, becoming one of the most successful artists of the late 1980s to mid-1990s. From 1986 to 2007, Erasure achieved 24 consecutive Top 40 hits in the UK. By 2009, 34 of their 37 chart-eligible singles and EPs had made the UK Top 40, with 17 climbing into the Top 10. At the 1989 Brit Awards, Erasure won the Brit Award for Best British Group. The duo is most popular in their native UK and mainland Europe. The band is also popular within the LGBT community, for whom the openly gay Bell has become an icon. Erasure have penned over 200 songs and have sold over 25 million albums worldwide.

Take a Chance on Me – The Song

“Take a Chance on Me is a cover song by Erasure. The original  was by Swedish pop group ABBA, released in January 1978 as the second single from their fifth studio album, ABBA: The Album (1977). Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad share the lead vocals on the verses and choruses, with Fältskog singing two bridge sections solo. The song reached the top ten in both the UK and US. “Take a Chance on Me” proved to be one of ABBA’s most successful chart hits, becoming the group’s seventh UK number one (and third consecutive chart-topper in the country after “Knowing Me, Knowing You” and “The Name of the Game”). It was also ABBA’s final number one in the UK of the 1970s and gave the group the distinction of being the act with the most chart-topping singles of the 1970s in the UK. It sold and streamed over 600,000 units to receive a platinum disc. As of September 2021, it is the group’s fourth-biggest song in the country with 950,000 chart sales (including 882,000 pure sales.

The Gun Barrel  – The Shape

This record has been crafted into the silhouette of the barrel of a gun with just one bullet to symbolise the deadly game of Russian roulette. Russian roulette is a potentially lethal game of chance in which a player places a single round in a revolver, spins the cylinder, places the muzzle against the head or body (of the opponent or themselves), and pulls the trigger. If the loaded chamber aligns with the barrel, the weapon will fire, killing or severely injuring the player.
