Additional information about this, Renée and Renato vinyl art.

Renée and Renato – The Artist/s

Renée and Renato were a female/male vocal duo, who had a UK number-one hit in December 1982 with “Save Your Love”.  West Midlands-resident Italian-born Renato Pagliari auditioned for ITV’s talent show New Faces in 1975, catching the attention of songwriter, Johnny Edward, who had written “Save Your Love”. He was teamed by Edward with British singer Hilary Lester and the duo was renamed Renée and Renato. They recorded the song, “Save Your Love”, which became the 1982 Christmas number one. Lester returned to private life after the fame died down, but Renato still sang, mainly on cruise ships and occasionally at his son’s restaurant, Renato’s, in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

Save Your Love – The Song

Save Your Love is a song which, when performed by duo Renée and Renato, was a UK number-one hit in December 1982. It remained at the top of the chart for four weeks. The song was written by Johnny Edward (creator and voice of fictional robot TV character Metal Mickey) and his wife Sue. Edward also produced the song and released it on his own label, Hollywood Records. “Save Your Love” entered the UK Singles Chart on 13 November 1982 at number 38. However, it began to pick up sales during the Christmas period, and six weeks after its debut was at the top of the charts, resulting in it being played on Top of the Pops and many radio stations. It was the first ever completely indie number one, and it sold some 980,000 copies. Renée (whose real name was Hilary Lester), did not appear in the video for “Save Your Love”; instead, she was replaced by a model named Vivienne Marshall (née Penny)

The Piggy Bank – The Shape

Modelled into a savings piggy bank. The Piggy bank (sometimes penny bank or money box) is the traditional name of a coin container normally used by children. The piggy bank is known to collectors as a “still bank” as opposed to the “mechanical banks” popular in the early 20th century. These items are also often used by companies for promotional purposes. The use of the name ‘piggy bank’ gave rise to its widely recognised ‘pig’ shape, and many financial service companies use piggy banks as logos for their savings products. Piggy banks are usually made of ceramic or porcelain. They are generally painted and serve as a pedagogical device to teach the rudiments of thrift and savings to children; money can be easily inserted. Many piggy banks have a rubber plug located on the underside; others are made of vinyl and have a removable nose for easy coin access. Some incorporate electronic systems which calculate the amount of money deposited. Some piggy banks do not have an opening besides the slot for inserting coins, which will lead to smashing the piggy bank with a hammer or by other means, to obtain the money within. Instead of coins this piggy bank collect hearts.
