Grace Jones – The Artist
Grace Beverly Jones (born 1948) is a Jamaican-American supermodel, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Born in Jamaica she moved to New York to work as a model and in 1977 embarked on a music career. In the early 1980s, she moved toward a new wave style that drew on reggae, funk, post-punk and pop music. Since then she has worked in film and production.
Private Life – The Song
Private Life is a song by the English band The Pretenders and written by Chrissie Hyde, the lead singer. Grace Jones covered it the same year and released it from her first post-disco album Warm Leatherette. It was recorded at the Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas.
Grace Jones – The Shape
Modelled into the classic pose made famous by Grace Jones with her distinctive flat topped haircut. The image is taken from her Slave to the Rhythm album where her portrait photograph has been crudely chopped into shape.
The Pretenders are a British–American rock band formed in March 1978. The original band consisted of founder and main songwriter Chrissie Hynde (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), James Honeyman-Scott (lead guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), Pete Farndon (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Martin Chambers (drums, backing vocals, percussion). Following the deaths of Honeyman-Scott and Farndon in 1982 and 1983, the band experienced numerous personnel changes; Hynde has been the band’s only consistent member.
