Lou Reed – The Artist
Lewis Allan Reed (1942 – 2013) was an American musician, singer, songwriter and poet. He was the lead guitarist, singer and principal songwriter for the rock band the Velvet Underground and had a solo career that spanned five decades. The Velvet Underground were not a commercial success during their existence, but are now regarded as one of the most influential bands in the history of underground and alternative rock music. After leaving the band in 1970, Reed released twenty solo studio albums. His second, Transformer (1972), was produced by David Bowie and arranged by Mick Ronson, and brought mainstream recognition.
Perfect Day – The Song
Perfect Day is a song written by Lou Reed in 1972. It was originally featured on Transformer, Reed’s second post-Velvet Underground solo album, and as a double A-side with his major hit, “Walk on the Wild Side”. Reed re-recorded the song for his 2003 album The Raven. A version by Duran Duran reached number 28 on the UK Singles Chart in 1995.
The OK Hand Gesture – The Shape
This record has been modelled into the shape of the OK gesture with a heart in the palm of the hand rather than a ring. The OK or ring gesture is performed by connecting the thumb and index into a circle, and holding the other fingers straight or relaxed away from the palm. Commonly used by divers, it signifies “I am OK” or “Are you OK?” when underwater. In most English-speaking countries it denotes approval, agreement, and that all is well or “okay”.
