Additional information about this, Grace Jones vinyl art.

Grace Jones – The Artist

Grace Beverly Jones (born 1948) is a Jamaican-American supermodel, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Born in Jamaica she moved to New York to work as a model and in 1977 embarked on a music career. In the early 1980s, she moved toward a new wave style that drew on reggae, funk, post-punk and pop music. Since then she has worked in film and production.

My Jamaican Guy – The Song

My Jamaican Guy is a single by the Jamaican singer and actress Grace Jones, released in 1983. It was the third single to Grace Jones’ 1982 album Living My Life, her third and last album recorded in the Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas. The track showcased Caribbean music-inspired reggae/dub sound. Jones penned the song herself, revealing in a 2010 interview that it was written about Tyrone Downie of Bob Marley’s The Wailers, who “was with somebody else. He was a beautiful guy. He doesn’t even know I wrote it about him.” The song is largely written in Jamaican Patois. Jones’ mother Marjorie provided backing vocals but, as a pastor’s wife, wasn’t credited for fear of upsetting church elders. The iconic image on the single cover was created by Jean-Paul Goude, who was the singer’s partner at that time and worked on some of her record artworks.] A version of it was later used as a cover of her final “best of” compilation to date, The Ultimate Collection.

Grace Jones – The Shape

Modelled into the classic pose made famous by Grace Jones with her distinctive flat topped haircut. The image is taken from her ‘My Jamaican Guy’ record sleeve. The photos taken from the shoot were treated so all the shapes had sharp angles. In addition her nose is photographed to look as if it is pierced with a bone. Nose piercing is the piercing of the skin or cartilage which forms any part of the nose, normally for the purpose of wearing jewellery, called a nose-jewel. Among the different varieties of nose piercings, the nostril piercing is the most common.
