Olivia Newton-John – The Artist

Olivia Newton-John, AO, OBE (born 1948) is an English-Australian singer, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, and activist. She has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time. She starred in the musical film Grease, and its soundtrack is one of the most successful in history, with the single “You’re the One That I Want”, with John Travolta, one of the best selling singles.

Magic – The Song

Magic is a 1980 song performed by Olivia Newton-John, from the soundtrack to the film Xanadu. It was one of her most successful songs and was popular throughout the world. 

Xanadu is a 1980 American romantic musical fantasy film written by Richard Christian Danus and Marc Reid Rubel and directed by Robert Greenwald. The title is a reference to the nightclub in the film, which takes its name from Xanadu, the summer capital of Kublai Khan’s Yuan Dynasty in China. Xanadu stars Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly and Michael Beck, and features music by Newton-John, Electric Light Orchestra, Cliff Richard and The Tubes. Despite the lacklustre performance of the film, the soundtrack album became a huge commercial success around the world. The film has since become a cult classic for the way it mixes the storyline from an old-fashioned 1940’s fantasy with modern aesthetics featuring late 70’s Rock and Pop music on the soundtrack as well as for fans of Newton-John.

Magic, which encompasses the sub-genres of illusion, stage magic, and close up magic, among others, is a performing art in which audiences are entertained by tricks, effects, or illusions of seemingly impossible feats, using natural means. It is to be distinguished from paranormal magic which are effects claimed to be created through supernatural means. It is one of the oldest performing arts in the world.
