Additional information about this, Clodagh Rodgers vinyl art.

Clodagh Rodgers- The Artist

Clodagh Rodgers (1947 – 2025) was a Northern Irish[a] singer, best known for her hit singles including “Come Back and Shake Me”, “Goodnight Midnight” and “Jack in the Box” and albums including You Are My Music, It’s Different Now and Save Me. Rodgers was born in County Down in 1947 and started singing at the age of 13. She made her television debut in September 1962.She represented the United Kingdom at the 1971 Eurovision Song Contest with “Jack in the Box”, and finished in fourth place. After the contest, the single reached #4 on the UK singles chart. After her divorce in 1979, Rodgers stopped making new music and reduced her live appearances.

Jack in The Box – The Song

“Jack in The Box” is written by David Myers and composed by John Worsley, was the United Kingdom’s entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1971, performed by the Northern Irish singer Clodagh Rodgers. The singer expresses her strong feelings of love to a man who treats her like a toy, thus providing the “jack in the box” simile, as she feels that in exchange of his love, she would gladly “bounce on a spring” like the aforementioned toy (but is not so thrilled to do it without reciprocation). At the end of the song, however, she lets this man know that one day she will be fed up enough to leave, so she hopes he will tell her he loves her, as she will do anything (within a reasonable time frame) to hear those words. The lyrics of the song were rewritten and used later in 1971 by the UK Government in a series of television advertisements to promote participation in the 1971 UK census. The title of this version was “Tick in the Box”, informing members of the public of how to complete the census form. The same version of the song was recycled ten years later for the 1981 census advertising. The singer of this version of the song is unknown.

The Jack in The Box – The Shape

This record has been modelled into the silhouette of a vintage Jack in the box.  A jack-in-the-box is a children’s toy that outwardly consists of a music box with a crank. When the crank is turned, a music box mechanism in the toy plays a melody. After the crank has been turned a sufficient number of times (such as at the end of the melody), the lid pops open and a figure, usually a clown or jester, pops out of the box. Some jacks-in-the-box open at random times when cranked, making the startle even more effective.
