Eric Clapton – The Artist

Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE (born 1945) is an English rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the Yardbirds and of Cream. Clapton has been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time. In his solo career, Clapton has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time.

I Shot The Sheriff – The Song

“I Shot The Sheriff”  is a song written by Jamaican reggae musician Bob Marley and released in 1973 with his band the Wailers. This is a cover version recorded by Eric Clapton as well as being released as a single it was included on his 1974 album 461 Ocean Boulevard. His performance of the song adds soft rock to the reggae sound and became an international hit. he story is told from the point of view of a narrator who admits to having killed the local sheriff, and claims to be falsely accused of having killed the deputy sheriff. The narrator also claims to have acted in self-defence when the sheriff tried to shoot him. In 2012, Marley’s former girlfriend Esther Anderson claimed that the lyrics, “Sheriff John Brown always hated me / For what, I don’t know / Every time I plant a seed / He said, ‘Kill it before it grow'” are actually about Marley being very opposed to her use of birth control pills; Marley supposedly replaced the word “doctor” with sheriff.

The Sheriff Badge – The Shape

This record has been modelled into the silhouette of a vintage Western style Sheriff badge. Sheriffs In the United States are the chief of law enforcement officers of a county. Sheriffs are usually either elected by the populace or appointed by an elected body. Sheriff’s offices are typically tasked with operating jails, security at courthouses and county buildings, protection of judges and juries, preventing breaches of the peace, and coordinating with city police departments. Sheriff’s offices may also be responsible for security at public events and areas. In western times the Sheriiff wore a six pointed star as a badge on their normal western outfit to denote that they are the sheriff.
