Tina Charles – The Artist
Tina charles (born Tina Hoskins; 1954) is an English singer who achieved success as a disco artist in the mid to late 1970s. Her most successful single was the UK no. 1 hit “I Love to Love (But My Baby Loves to Dance)” in 1976. Charles began her career as a backing singer and session musician, and recorded her first solo single in 1969 with a then-unknown Elton John playing piano. During the early 1970s she supplied vocals for the Top of the Pops album series of cover versions of contemporary hits. Charles’ big break came soon after in 1975, when Indian-British composer/producer Biddu, who had just enjoyed success with the disco song “Kung Fu Fighting” for Carl Douglas, produced the singles “You Set My Heart on Fire” and “I Love to Love (But My Baby Loves to Dance)” for her. The latter single spent three weeks at number one on the UK chart in March 1976, and was a major hit around the world. It won a Juno Award in 1977.
I Love To Love (But my Baby Loves to Dance) – The Song
I Love To Love (But my Baby Loves to Dance) is a song by British singer Tina Charles, released in 1976 as the second single from her debut album, I Love to Love. The song was composed by Jack Robinson and James Bolden. The track was an international success both upon its original 1976 release and also when – remixed by the DMC (Disco Mix Club) – it was reissued ten years later (the DMC version features the instrumental “Sunburn” by the Biddu Orchestra as its B-side).
The Dancer – The Shape
This record has been modelled into a silhouette of Tina Charles dancing. Dance is an art form, often classified as a sport, consisting of sequences of body movements with aesthetic and often symbolic value, either improvised or purposefully selected. Dance can be categorised and described by its choreography, by its repertoire of movements or by its historical period or place of origin. Dance is typically performed with musical accompaniment, and sometimes with the dancer simultaneously using a musical instrument themselves.
