Tony Bennett – The Artist
Anthony Dominick Benedetto (1926 – 2023), known professionally as Tony Bennett, was an American singer. Bennett amassed many accolades, including during his career and sold more than 50 million records worldwide and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Tony Bennett reached his artistic peak in the late 1950s and after a brief downturn in his popularity in the 70s staged a comeback in the late 1980s and 1990s. During this period his he released more successful records and expanded his reach to a younger generation while keeping his musical style intact. Throughout his lifetime, he sang several duets and organised concerts with many acclaimed American and foreign singers, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Connie Francis, Vicente Fernández, Elena Zagorskaya, and Amy Winehouse.

It is a popular song, written in the fall of 1953 in Brooklyn, New York, with music by George Cory (1920–1978) and lyrics by Douglass Cross (1920–1975) and best known as the signature song of Tony Bennett. Lyrically the song was about two amateur writers nostalgic for San Francisco after moving to New York. The song is one of the official anthems for the city of San Francisco. In 2018, it was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or artistically significant”.
