UB40 – The Artist
UB40 are an English reggae and pop band, formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England. The band has had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart, and has also achieved considerable international success with over 70 million records sold worldwide. The ethnic make-up of the band’s original line-up was diverse, with musicians of English, Welsh, Irish, Jamaican, Scottish and Yemeni parentage. The band’s line-up was stable for nearly 29 years, from 1979 until January, when frontman Ali Campbell left the band.
Christine Ellen Hynde (born 1951) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. She is a founding member and the guitarist, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter of the rock band the Pretenders, as well as its only constant member. Hynde formed the Pretenders in 1978 with Pete Farndon, James Honeyman-Scott and Martin Chambers. She has also released a number of songs with other musicians including Frank Sinatra, Cher and UB40, and she released the solo album Stockholm in 2014.
I Got You Babe – The Song
I Got You babe is a 1985 single by the UK reggae band UB40. It is a cover-version of a 1965 single by the American pop music duo, Sonny & Cher. Written by Sonny Bono. Twenty years later UB40 did this version with American singer Chrissie Hyde, guesting on vocals. It too became a popular hit peaking at number one in the UK charts.
