Johnny Nash – The Artist
John Lester Nash Jr. (1940 – 2020) was an American singer-songwriter, best known in the United States for his 1972 hit “I Can See Clearly Now”. Primarily a reggae and pop singer, he was one of the first non-Jamaican artists to record reggae music in Kingston.
I Can See Clearly Now – The Song
‘I Can See Clearly Now’ is a song originally recorded by Johnny Nash. It was a single from the album of the same name and achieved success in the United States and the United Kingdom when it was released in 1972 and released again in 1989 in the UK, with a remix to promote Nescafe Coffee. It has been covered by many artists throughout the years, including a hit version by Lee Towers where it reached the Top 20 in 1982 charting at No. 19 and another hit version in 1993 by Jimmy Cliff, who re-recorded the song for the motion picture soundtrack of Cool Runnings. Issued on both 7″ and 12″ single formats, the 12″ single featuring an extended version of the song. The song is driven by bouncy lead keyboard work from Eddie Van Halen performed on an Oberheim OB-8. It was an international hit and help the albums success.
