Bangles – The Artist
The Bangles are an American pop rock band that formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981. The band recorded several singles that reached the U.S. and UK Top 10 during the 1980s, including “Manic Monday” (1986); “Walk Like an Egyptian” (1986); “A Hazy Shade of Winter” (1987); “In Your Room” (1989); and the no. 1 hit “Eternal Flame” (1989). The band’s classic line-up consisted of founding members Susanna Hoffs (vocals and rhythm guitar), Debbi Peterson (drums and vocals), and Vicki Peterson (lead guitar and vocals), together with Michael Steele (bass and vocals).
Eternal Flame – The Song
Eternal Flame is a song recorded by American pop rock group the Bangles for their 1988 album Everything, being written by group member Susanna Hoffs with the established hit songwriting team of Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly: upon its 1989 single release, “Eternal Flame” became a number one hit in eight countries, including Australia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The focal metaphor of “Eternal Flame” was suggested by two eternal flames: one at the gravesite of Elvis Presley at Graceland where the Bangles had been given a private tour and one at a local synagogue in Palm Springs which Steinberg attended as a child.
An Eternal Flame – The Shape
This record has been modelled into an eternal flame and a heart. An eternal flame is a flame, lamp or torch that burns continuously for an indefinite period. Most eternal flames are ignited and tended intentionally, but some are natural phenomena caused by natural gas leaks, peat fires and coal seam fires, all of which can be initially ignited by lightning, piezoelectricity or human activity, some of which have burned for thousands of years.
