Elton John and Kiki Dee – The Artist
Sir Elton Hercules John CBE (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947) is an English singer, pianist, and composer. He has worked with lyricist Bernie Taupin as his songwriting partner since 1967; they have collaborated on more than 30 albums to date. In his five-decade career Elton John has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. He has also composed music, produced records, and has occasionally acted in films.
Pauline Matthews (born 1947) better known by her stage name Kiki Dee, is an English pop singer. Known for her blue-eyed soul vocals, she was the first female singer from the UK to sign with Motown’s Tamla Records. Dee is best known for the hit singles “Amoureuse” (1973), “I’ve Got the Music in Me” (1974) and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”,[5] her 1976 duet with Elton John, which reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. Her 1981 single “Star” became the theme song for the talent show Opportunity Knocks when it was revived by the BBC in 1987. In 1993, she performed another duet with John for his Duets album, a cover version of Cole Porter’s “True Love”, which reached number 2 in the UK. During her career, she has released 40 singles, three EPs and 12 albums.
Don’t Go Breaking My Heart – The Song
Don’t Go Breaking My Heart is a 1976 duet by English musician Elton John and English singer Kiki Dee. It was written by John with Bernie Taupin under the pseudonyms “Ann Orson” and “Carte Blanche”, respectively, and intended as an affectionate pastiche of the Motown style, notably the various duets recorded by Marvin Gaye and singers such as Tammi Terrell and Kim Weston. John and Taupin originally intended to record the song with Dusty Springfield, but ultimately withdrew the offer; Springfield’s partner Sue Cameron later said this was because she was too ill at the time.
Unlike many of John’s singles from the 1970s, it was never included on an original album (although it was recorded during the Blue Moves sessions). In the same year, John and Taupin received the 1976 Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. In 1994, John released the song as a duet with American drag queen RuPaul. It was produced by Giorgio Moroder.
The Stab Proof Vest – The Shape
This record has been modelled into the silhouette of a stab proof vest. A stab vest or stab proof vest is a reinforced piece of body armour, worn under or over other items of clothing, which is designed to resist knife attacks to the chest, back and sides. Stab vests are different from bulletproof vests, most of which offer protection against firearms but afford little against stabbing with sharp-tipped objects such as knives; most stab vests afford less protection against bullets, particularly those of high caliber, but are designed to prevent serious injury by prohibiting knife penetration beyond a few millimetres. Stab vests are also needle and slash proof.
