Soul II Soul – The Artist/s
Soul II Soul are a British musical collective formed in London in 1988. They are best known for their 1989 UK chart-topper and US top five hit “Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)”, and “Keep On Movin'” which reached number five in the UK and number 11 in the US. They won two Grammy Awards, and have been nominated for five Brit Awards—twice for Best British Group. The group initially attracted attention as a sound system some years earlier run by founder Jazzie B, playing at nights including their own at the Africa Centre, London. By 1988, the official lineup was recognised as Jazzie B, Caron Wheeler, Nellie Hooper, Simon Law, Doreen Waddell, Rose Windross, Daddae, Aitch B, and Jazzie Q.
Back To Life (However Do You Want Me) – The Song
‘Back To Life (However Do you Want Me)‘ is a song by British R&B band Soul II Soul. The song also features the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra. It appears on a secondary version of their debut album Club Classics Vol. One (titled Keep On Movin’ in the United States) and was released as its second single. “Back to Life” is one of two songs on the album featuring British R&B singer Caron Wheeler and gained success intentionally. The album version of the song was an a cappella which was remixed and re-recorded before being released as a single. Two new versions were produced — the first taking the original recording with instrumentation added, and the second was a re-working of the song with new lyrics and chorus (also adding “However Do You Want Me” to the title). It was the second version that became most popular.
